  1. That is true. For me “clean” means I try to choose products with ingredients (or “chemicals”) that are NOT linked to cancer, NOT endocrine disrupters, and NOT harmful to wildlife if I swim in a reef or lake. Those are my criteria. Whether the ingredients are natural or chemical, that’s what I’m looking for.

  2. Not necessarily true… but “natural” can be false advertising. Yet theres plenty of brands that use natural, clean ingredients, though.

You should take a look at the myriad of beauty companies in NZ! We are very big on natural beauty products. Some good brands are Trilogy, Antipodes, Ethique, Tailor Skincare, and so many more.

One brand I like is Essano, though they use a combination of natural and chemical ingredients. These chemicals consist of mild surfactants in their shampoos, humectants like glycerin in their moisturizers, etc. I love their shampoos and conditioners (I only waah my hair once every week to week and a half and it is one of the only brands I’ve tried that doesn’t cause my fine low porosity hair to oil up and I still get compliments all the way to wash day!). Their cocoon moisturizer is really good, too. Great for dry skin! Another brand I love that does clean beauty really well, but isn’t a Kiwi brand, but it is sold here is Lush!

I get the point you’re making, and while it’s true for most of the market, there are brands out there that are natural or “clean” or do in fact use the bare minimum of chemicals. You just have to do your research.

Also, I believe that some chemicals are good: I prefer to use natural plant extracts and ingredients for my moisturizers where possible, and you can easily do away with chemicals in place of natural ingredients for hair oil, cuticle oil, face and massage oil, etc but I like using actives to treat specific issues; AHAs, retinoids, etc. Our skin is our largest organ, so we need to treat it with care 💕

P.S. I’m just so tired of dermatologists poo-hooing natural ingredients. Especially when many cultures have been using them for hundreds to thousands of years with proven results! Many of the chemicals we have today were either synthesized from or are artificial versions of natural components and extracts found in nature! They just wanted to be able to modernize and patent nature!
